美国华人生物医药科技协会会长沈栋宣布竞选马里兰州43区众议员。
【侨报实习记者林宜3月15日华盛顿报道】美国华人生物医药科技协会会长沈栋宣布竞选马里兰州43区众议员的消息不胫而走，让大华府华裔社区既好奇又期待。一个在科学领域有著卓越成就，同时利用专业发展中美两国生物医药的科学工作者如何利用严谨而讲究考证的思维走进政界，用证据和事实代替辩论，令大家拭目以待。
沈栋所在的马里兰43选区包括巴尔的摩市和巴尔的摩郡，是名副其实的非裔选区。目前，该选区9名候选人竞争一个州众议员席位，选情十分激烈。
CBA工作 积累从政经验
毕业于约翰·霍普金斯大学医学院肿瘤专业的沈栋，目前就任美国强生集团肺癌和前列腺癌创新药大数据研发主管，同时也是美国华人生物医药科技协会（CBA）现任会长和阿斯利康公司华人科学家协会创办人。
在担任美国华人生物医药科技协会会长期间，沈栋在天津康希诺生物技术有限公司和上海辅仁药业设置了美国华人生物医药科技协会工作站。同时与中美相关机构建立了更加广泛的合作关系，赞助亚太生物医药亚太峰会和深圳“国际生物谷”精准医疗国际医疗的协同创新。在华府当地则加强与马里兰州和蒙郡政府的合作伙伴关系，积极参与和支持州内商业和经济发展部的活动，成功实施了与蒙郡的合作协议并续约。2015年7月，与蒙郡政府成功举办的“中国行”为继续引进和帮助中国药企在马里兰安家落户奠定了坚实的基础。
沈栋强调，多年在社区及中美两国关系和合作上取得的经验可以帮助他更好地发展巴尔的摩。他说，巴尔的摩是一个有发展潜力的城市，他希望通过自己的努力，让巴尔的摩更加的宜居宜业。
用教育解决治安问题
巴尔的摩一直是马里兰的治安重灾区。减少巴尔的摩的治安犯罪案件也是所有候选人的首要议题。对于沈栋来说，治理治安可以和教育及就业结合起来，实现一箭三雕。沈栋介绍，巴尔的摩有许多的危房和空置房，将空置房和危房改建成适宜居住的房屋，就能增加巴尔的摩地区的就业率。
沈栋强调，教育是解决治安问题的重点。他建议巴尔的摩要深入普及教育，让每一名学生完成基础教育和技能教育，保证学生们进入社会后有事可做。
依学术资源发展经济
巴尔的摩有著全美顶尖的约翰·霍普金斯大学、马里兰大学等学府，医学、商业资源丰富。沈栋认为，巴尔的摩应该利用当地资源，创立高质量的公司，为巴尔的摩带来更多高技术的工作岗位。同时，巴尔的摩应该引进更多的投资。
用科学思维参政立法
沈栋强调，科学家走入政坛是今年美国选举的一大趋势。他强调，科学工作者主张以理性科学的方法进行立法，通过严谨的分析和科学的数据找出最适宜当地民众的解决之道，而不是像现在两党拖沓冗长的辩论。沈栋认为，科学工作者的参政一定能给美国政坛带来新鲜血液和崭新的立法方式。
