大会组委会秘书长、江苏省政府副秘书长王志忠介绍，本次大会以“聚•融•创•变”为主题，聚焦世界智能制造发展方向，解析智能制造发展趋势，针对制造业各实际应用领域进行研讨，进一步推进合作发展机制建设，是全球智能制造领域一次大规模、国际性交流、研讨、展示、交易的顶级峰会，旨在推动我国智能制造发展，加快产业转型升级，助力江苏建设具有国际竞争力的先进制造业基地。
王志忠表示，作为本次大会的主办方之一，江苏展示了推进智能制造的坚强决心和实际行动。智能制造正成为推动江苏经济转型发展的战略支撑点，江苏迫切需要在巩固提升制造业现有优势的基础上，推进智能制造发展。本次大会有助于江苏积极探索智能制造的新技术、新经济、新业态、新模式,促进江苏打造世界智能制造产业新高地，助力南京等苏南五市中国制造2025试点城市群的示范与实践。
组委会介绍，大会期间，工信部将发布“中国智能制造绿皮书”和“第一批智能制造系统解决方案供应商目录”;中国科协将发布世界智能制造技术与工程十大最新进展和中国智能制造技术与工程十大最新进展。
大会主要框架包含智领全球高峰会、智领全球嘉年华和智领全球博览会三大品牌。其中智领全球高峰会包括主旨演讲、智能制造主题报告、智能制造领军企业高峰论坛、“聚·融·创·变”主题对话、14场分论坛、闭幕式、启迪性演讲等；为构建一个多元、开放的交流合作平台，汇聚世界智能制造领域各方面专业人士和资源，引领全球智能制造发展，本届大会特设“智领全球嘉年华” 日，鼓励全社会智能制造领域各相关单位合作办会，共谋发展，目前已有8场活动入选；同时，今年智领全球博览会在去年的基础上进一步提档升级，展览区域共3个馆，展出面积约5万平方米。
大会吸引国内外专家和领军企业参会参展。确定出席论坛的重要嘉宾201位，其中两院院士16位、国际专家55位、标杆企业负责人33位。目前已有261家国内外智能制造知名企业参展，以国家智能制造“五三五十”工程（五类装备、三种基础、五种模式、十大领域）为指引进行展览设计，同时组织户外高端装备展示，形成馆内外互动的整体效果。大会设有“网上世界智能制造大会”，对实体大会进行虚拟展示。
