“对于企业来说，最重要的不是技术、投资的存储，最难的是如何运用新的信息来改变你所做的事情。心中的软件是最重要的，也是最难得的。”凯文·艾什顿建议，对于中国中小企业，不妨把步子迈得小一点，慢慢地发展自己的智能制造设备。“面对老旧设备的缺点，不是抛弃，而是循序渐进地用技术来改变它。”他表示，很多时候，包括他自己在内的很多人谈论物联网时通常会注意大的变革方向，而事实上，还有很多公司小步伐地、循序渐进地迈进，实现了智能化发展。
