William Tong，汤伟麟，又书写了历史! 11月6日中期选举中成功当选为康州总检察长(Attorney General, AG)，他是美首位民选华裔AG!
从2006年起成为康州第一位华裔议员，到随后担任州议会立法委员会主席，到参加参议员和斯坦福市长的竞选，他一直在坚持不懈的为打破华人参政的天花板而努力。2018年初，William参加康州Attorney General(AG 总检察长)的竞选。经过长达半年的与五个党内对手的竞争，辩论和向选民宣扬自己的主张，在与自己竞选团队(包括上百人的华人同胞志愿者和募捐者)的一起努力下，于5月18号获得康州民主党63%的党代表选票赢得党背书，进而在8月14日成功胜出，获得民主党提名的康州AG候选人。
从8月份开始到今天，面对在2016年最先支持总统的强大共和党候选人的挑战，William通过三次占绝对优势的辩论，强烈社会责任感的理念和强有力的基层选举支持，一举获得大选的最后胜利。这个胜利，对于William Tong的政治生涯是一小步，对于华裔整体政治地位的提高是一大步！
William出生于康州West Hartford，是第二代华人子弟，家有兄妹五人。他的父母早年在Hartford地区经营中餐馆，同几乎所有中国父母一样，他们拼命工作就是为了让五个孩子能够接受最好的教育。William小学和初中在康州私校就读，高中毕业于全美排名第一的Phillips Academy Andover, 本科就读于藤校布朗大学, 2000年获芝加哥大学法学博士。
William从小就在父母的餐馆帮忙，在社会的底层打拼，见证了贫苦百姓尤其是华人在美生活的不易，因此对弱势群体有着强烈的同情心和同理心。同时作为一名社会精英的律师和议员，William 也有着很深的社会责任感和民族使命感。William从政的历史和他的竞选立场证明了当人们受高房贷之苦，房产即将被银行没收、当有人不小心触犯轻罪，面临再次融入社会的困境、当移民面临遣返、当我们的社区备受枪支管理松散的威胁的时候，他会为我们积极奔走，他是我们华人在困难时最可以依赖的力量。
除了积极亲身参加康州的反细分运动，William很早就提醒华裔社区，推动一个立法不仅仅靠一人一党，而是需要多方合作。华人要切忌好心做坏事。在反种族歧视方面，William一直走在康州政坛的最前列。在FBI 局长发出“所有华人都不可信赖”和“华人都是间谍”等极端言论时，William第一时间站出来公开予以谴责，并且致信康州国会参议员，表达对FBI局长的抗议。
在近来全国范围内，无论是民主党还是共和党当政，对华人的歧视性言论愈演愈烈的现况下，William对我们的支持更显弥足珍贵，我们需要更多像他这样的政治力量来为我们抗争，做华人的防火墙。
康州总检察长的职位设立于1897年，是州里最高的民事诉讼长官，维系民生，责任重大。近年华裔社区关心政治热情提高，本着”If you don’t have a seat at the table, you are probably on the menu“的精神，积极参加参政议政和选举。今天William Tong的成功又一次突破美国华裔参政历史，在政府最高行政法律领域为华裔争得了一席之地，A Seat At The Table。William Tong的获选反映了康州选民的人心所向，是华人的骄傲!
